Ever embarrass a cat?

Yes… I can say that I have indeed done this. Last night, even. See, my cat & I have this game we play. Ring Toss for me… Ring Fetch for her. I have a white plastic ring that I salvaged from some old curtains that has become my cat’s favorite toy. She’ll even bring it to bed with her… much to my wife’s & my chagrin. We’ve taken to hiding the ring at night to avoid the 7 am scurry on our bladders.

Anyway, last night, as SaulÄ«te brought her ring back during a one of our nightly games… she had it turned up, so that the ring went above her nose, instead of hanging out of her mouth which usually gives her the ring-through-the-bull’s-nose look. With the ring encircling the top of her nose, she looked quite funny. I started laughing uncontrollably. My cat actually started to look around & then began backing up to the other side of the couch out of my sight. My wife exclaimed, “You embarrassed the cat!” She could still see her & she gave me the play by play. “She’s dropping the ring! Now, she’s picking it up the ‘correct’ way!” After correcting her apparent social blunder, she came back around the couch proudly strutting her bull-self. I laughed even harder.

I hope to get video of this soon.

Honestly… what’s the point?

This is stupid… a blog is supposed to simply be a place where you tell people about websites that you’ve found that you find interesting. Instead for many people it’s become a literal online diary where you express some of the deepest things inside. How is this a good thing? How is it good to literally air every aspect of yourself to a seemingly, yet very not, ambivalent audience? My wife commented that the internet seems to afford people a kind of pseudo-anonymity empowering them to be more open about themselves than they normally would be in person. The internet is not anonymous!!! When you write a web page, write a blog, write an email or in an instant messenger chat… it’s all public! It’s all out there! A close friend of mine is teaching me the value of not “casting your pearls before swine”, meaning don’t just throw all of your best out into the world just for any old person (or computer) to devour. I can’t believe I’ve fallen victim to this kind of thing. Actually, I can believe it. If I say anymore, I would merely be proving my point. I’ve said too much already.
