Musical Collection… part 20

One of my all time favorite bands in the whole world. Thanks to my brother for introducing them to me when I was 17. Check out the awesome solo on the lyricon.

A New Bridge Built

So this past week I was able to create a wireless internet bridge from one building with internet access to our new residence with no real viable prospect of internet access. The story goes like this. We moved into a farmhouse just 200m from the YWAM location. We contacted Lattelekom and they said, “You’ll have to pay 1500 Ls to get internet to your house” (that’s about $2700 USD or 2100 Euros) and we said, “Uh uh!”

So, with the help of DD-WRT & a couple of Linksys WRT54GL wireless broadband routers, I created a link that my wife & I are both using even now. Here’s the line of sight:

The red circle is where the YWAM building is where the internet is originating.

The Freedom Project

The Freedom Project

The Freedom Project

I have gotten involved a little bit with The Freedom Project by organizing an evening of teaching & music about the subject of human trafficking. It will happen in Talsi on October 13 at 7pm. A friend forwarded a link to me for an article that was written 7 years ago about this issue. In this article, it talked about 2 million women & children being trapped in sex slavery around the world. What was shocking was that it mentioned that “Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have become the sex centers for Western Europe, featuring women from the former Soviet Union.” Now, the number has swelled to 27 million (according to The Freedom Project website). Something must be done to stop this. Please consider how you can be involved.

Umm……yeah.

I just need to make a disclaimer here that I’m including this video here just for humor’s sake. Thanks to my wife’s friend who got a hold of this one. Enjoy!

The Amazing Adventures of My Little Grey Camera Bag

We returned to Latvia on March 7th very late at night. But before we got that far, we had a 9-hour layover in the London-Gatwick airport where a good friend of ours came to spend a lot of that time with us & help us deal with the worst of the jetlag. As we talked, we realized that there is a one-carry-on-bag-per-person-leaving-UK rule & my wife & I had two each. So, we did quite a lot of consolidation to get us down to one each. Our friend was willing to take my camera bag for me, since it isn’t collapsible, & would give it to her husband, also a friend, who would be coming to Latvia in just 3 weeks.

So, this is where my bag’s adventure really began. Our friend, Dana (who’s American), took it home to her husband, Andy, who’s English. 3 weeks later he brought it with him to Latvia where he was going to the opposite side of the country from us for a guitar workshop in the town of Madona. A mutual Latvian friend, Baiba (said like “BY-bah”) was going to the same guitar workshop. Since Andy had a very short amount of time in Latvia (& we’re still without a car & couldn’t get to Riga very easily), we asked Andy to give my bag to Baiba to take back with her to Riga.

So, Baiba took the bag to Riga & then met another mutual Latvian friend, Elita (said like “ELLIE-tah”). Elita called me one day to let me know that she had met with Baiba in Riga & that she had given her my bag. A week or so later, Elita’s boyfriend, Pēteris (said like “PEH-teris”) went to Riga to visit her. Pēteris is another very good Latvian friend of ours, so it worked well, since he lives in Talsi just a few kilometers from us.

Well, last night, exactly 6 weeks & 5 people later, my little grey camera bag made it home safely. Since we’ve returned to Latvia 6 weeks ago, my camera bag has seen more of this country than my wife & I have!!

Thank you to all of our friends (American, English & Latvian) who got my little bag home!

Tribute & Prayer

To my friends at YWAM Denver, you are loved & the Lord is with you… to those who perished, I didn’t know you, but it seems your light shined so very bright. Bless you all with the Lord’s great peace, mercy & grace.

Sorrowfully,
~Chris

Riot Poem

My friend Anthony has created a new website/organization called Riot Poem. The premise of this is to allow artists to donate their work, which can then be sold to make money that is 100% donated to Justice For Children, Int’l. JFCI is an organization that is actively fighting against child sex trafficking. So, in effort of supporting my friend in his quest, I’m telling as many people as possible about his website. Please do the same & maybe buy a t-shirt!
